April 16th 2021 Poem Sixteen: The Night

I wish to show some special appreciation for the artist [BearBrickJia] that created the beautiful works that I chose to accompany my 16th poem during this month of poetic celebration - for they are beautiful, and each one is a poem in and of itself ~

The Night

04.16.2021

Who does the night belong to?

She is cold

Who does the night belong to?

She is darkness, and empty space, yet she holds galaxies within her

Who does the night belong to?

She longs for the moon to show her the way...but it merely reflects, and possesses no light of it's own - no answer ever comes from it's face

Who does the night belong to?

She sprinkles the night with star-lit tears, and her cries streak across space with fiery tails and icy bodies

Who does the night belong to?

She has many hearts, they pulse in a thousand rhythms, but no one listens

Who does the night belong to?

She is rife with passion, and she carries a Universe of love within her, burning with the fury of a thousand suns, but...all that she is, all that she has created, is constantly being ripped apart - her ever expanding search for the thing that will finally, finally make her complete, that will fill her voids and halt the black holes inside her that consume her energy relentlessly, night after night, eon after eon - forever searching, forever growing colder as her icy fingers grasp the edge of infinity - and she seeks further still, spiraling into the black, in a beautiful insanity that is the cosmos; she is everything and she is nothing...she holds worlds in her bosom and yet she is utterly alone and…

She is so, so cold…

And all she wishes to know - all she yearns for in an eternity of scouring the deepest reaches of space, in an eternity of all that was, is, and ever will be, is…

Who does the night...belong to?
